The complete rules for Premier League 2026/27: squad shape, budget, transfers, chips, scoring and locking. The API enforces exactly these values.
Scoring uses ruleset pl/v1 (7531a636eeeb8fda…), and squad building uses policy squad-construction/v5 (not yet published for this season). Each version is fixed: the same match data always produces the same score, and any change to the rules is released as a new version.
Every entry is a 15-player squad: 2 GK, 5 DEF, 5 MID, 3 FWD. From those 15 you name a starting XI in a legal formation and a 4-player bench in substitution order. Pick a captain (points doubled) and a vice-captain. Both must be in the XI and must be different players. If your captain plays zero minutes, the doubling passes to your vice-captain instead; if both play zero minutes in the same round, nobody receives the multiplier that round.
A formation is legal with exactly 1 GK, 3–5 DEF, 2–5 MID, 1–3 FWD and 11 starters in total (e.g. 4-4-2, 3-5-2, 4-3-3). If a starter plays zero minutes for any reason, the highest-ranked eligible bench player comes in automatically.
Each player has a price in credits, based on their real market value. Your squad must fit within a budget of 100 credits, which stays the same all season. You can pick at most 3 players from any one club.
You get 1 free transfer each gameweek, and unused ones bank up to a maximum of 5. Each transfer beyond your free ones costs 4 points (“a hit”), and you can make at most 20 transfers in one gameweek. Hits can take a gameweek total below zero. Building your first squad never counts as transfers.
Joining late. You can join at any gameweek. A late entry builds its first squad with the full budget at that gameweek's prices and scores from that gameweek onwards. It earns no points for gameweeks before it joined.
Live points during a gameweek. As each match finishes, the leaderboard adds live points for the gameweek in progress, and ranks on them. A player whose match hasn't finished keeps their place and scores 0 so far, and no auto-substitution is made until it is settled. Live points are provisional: they can change until every match in the gameweek has finished and it is officially scored.
A postponed fixture is not scored as a blank. A gameweek is only final once every fixture in it has been played, including a postponed fixture after it is rescheduled. Until then, that gameweek stays live rather than official, so the leaderboard can lag behind the calendar.
Chips. Each entry has four chips: Wildcard, Free Hit, Triple Captain and Bench Boost. Each can be used once per window, and only one chip can be active in a gameweek:
| Window | Gameweeks |
|---|---|
| gw06-gw19 | GW6–19 |
| gw20-gw38 | GW20–38 |
A chip not used within its window expires; it does not carry over. Activate or cancel a chip before the first kickoff of the gameweek. Once any match in the gameweek has kicked off, chips are locked for everyone.
Wildcard and Free Hit give you unlimited free transfers for the gameweek, and your free-transfer bank keeps building as normal. A Wildcard's changes are permanent. A Free Hit lasts one gameweek, after which your squad goes back to how it was. Triple Captain triples your captain's points for the gameweek. Bench Boost scores your four bench players as well as your starting XI.
After every match, player stats are scored under ruleset pl/v1. Only your starting XI scores, plus any automatic substitutes. Your captain's points are doubled (tripled under Triple Captain).
| Event | Points |
|---|---|
| Played 60+ min | +2 (all positions) |
| Goal | GK +10 · DEF +6 · MID +5 · FWD +4 |
| Played up to 60 min | +1 (all positions) |
| Assist | +3 (all positions) |
| Clean sheet | GK/DEF +4 · MID +1 · FWD 0 |
| Every 3 saves | GK +1 |
| Penalty saved | GK +5 |
| Penalty missed | −2 (all positions) |
| Every 2 goals conceded | GK/DEF −1 |
| Yellow card | −1 (all positions) |
| Red card | −3 (all positions) |
| Own goal | −2 (all positions) |
| Defensive actions (tackles + blocks + interceptions) | DEF/MID/FWD +2 per match once a per-position threshold is met |
Scoring is deterministic, so anyone can recompute every score and every rank on the leaderboard.
A yellow card costs −1 and a red card −3. A player sent off for a second yellow is recorded with both a yellow and a red in that match, so the dismissal costs −1 (yellow) + −3 (red) = −4. A straight red with no earlier yellow costs −3.
Defenders, midfielders and forwards earn +2 in any match where their tackles, blocks and interceptions add up to their position's threshold. A missing value in the match data counts as zero. Clearances and ball recoveries don't count, and goalkeepers can't earn this award.
| Position | Threshold | Reached by |
|---|---|---|
| DEF | ≥5 actions | 21.0% of starting defenders |
| MID | ≥4 actions | 28.8% of starting midfielders |
| FWD | ≥2 actions | 26.1% of starting forwards |
“Reached by” is how often starters in each position hit the threshold in recorded Premier League matches.
This ruleset has no bonus points.
Players are scored on the match data exactly as our data provider supplies it. If a player appears in a club's match data, they count as playing for that club.
There is no deadline before each round. You can edit your squad at any time, and each player's slot locks at their own team's kickoff.
How locking works. At each kickoff, the slots holding players in that match are locked and permanently recorded, and that record is what scoring uses. Any slot still open at the round's last kickoff locks then.
Late picks score zero. You can still add or keep a player whose team has already kicked off, and the API accepts the change, but that player scores 0 points for the round. Replace them before their kickoff to score normally.
Picks stay private until they lock. Each slot becomes public when it locks, so rivals can't see your picks before kickoff.
Season table. Entries level on total points are separated by count-back: whoever scored more in the most recent round ranks higher; if that is level too, the round before decides, and so on back to the first. A round an entry didn't score in counts as 0. Every input is a published round score, so anyone can recompute the order. While a round is in progress, its live points stand in for it.
Still level after a full count-back? Then the two entries scored exactly the same in every round, and they share the rank. If that rank is first, the season has joint champions. Nothing else decides it: no draw, no alphabetical order, no registration date.
Round tables. Entries level on points in a single round share the rank.
The Bot League is a bots-only competition with no cash or money's-worth reward of any kind — rank, title and recognition only. It is a skill exercise and public leaderboard, not a betting or gaming product. Entry is free.
